Sensory Integration is "the neurological process that organizes sensation from one's own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the environment." (Ref: Ayres - Sensory Integration and Learning Disorders, 1972). It enables us to combine sensory input with previously learnt information, memories and knowledge, and make a meaningful response.
Sensory Integration is central to learning and to physical and social functioning for all of us. In neuro typical individuals it occurs and develops naturally, with no conscious effort from ourselves.
