Like the White Room the Black Room also uses light and sound, the main area of difference is the furniture and walls are black. The black helps with particular visual problems; brightly coloured items against a black surface are easier to identify because the black doesn’t reflect the light.
Ultra Violet light is used extensively within a Black Room along with UV reactive equipment; this is very helpful for close up one to one work.
This therapeutic environment has a proven record with clients with various difficulties from profound and multiple to moderate needs. Mainstream schools are now recognising the value of such a resource. UV paints, shapes, bubbles and fabrics along with the UV fun tubs are very popular.
Imagine the Black Room as a darkened theatre where occasionally a glowing hand held object appears as if by magic.
All these combine to provide clients a powerful sensory experience and valuable tool for cares and teachers.
